This manual is for Users completing evidence law modules and tests in The Evidence Edge. If you are a Client Administrator, see the Client Administrator Manual.
1. Introduction
The Evidence Edge is a browser-based training program in Evidence Act 1995 for barristers and solicitors. Content is organised into thirteen modules, each covering a topic under the Act and leading High Court and NSW authorities.
For each module you typically:
- Work through Training Cards (short lessons).
- Complete a knowledge test (multiple-choice with explanations).
- Optionally review incorrect answers and retake the test.
Your progress is saved on the server when you use the hosted site, so you can continue from another device or browser after signing in with the same account.
2. Before you start
- Use a current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari.
- Your username and initial password are provided by your Client Administrator (organisation admin).
- You need a working email address on your account for password reset.
- Check the content version in the modules dashboard footer if you need support.
3. Sign in
Where to sign in
- Open the site sign-in chooser at
/sign-in/. - Choose User when completing modules and tests.
- Enter your username and password.
You can also open the user sign-in page directly at /user-portal/login.html.
First sign-in (temporary password)
When your account is created, you receive a temporary password (by email if the site is configured for email, or from your Client Administrator).
- Sign in with your username and the temporary password.
- When prompted, choose a new password (at least 8 characters) and confirm it.
- You are then taken to the modules dashboard.
Forgotten password
On the sign-in page, choose Forgotten your password?, enter your username, and submit.
If your account has no email on file, contact your Client Administrator to update your details.
Sign out
Use Save & Log Out on the modules dashboard. This saves your latest progress and ends your session.
4. Modules dashboard
After sign-in you land on the Evidence Law Modules dashboard. It shows your overall progress, your profile, and a card for each module.
Top bar
| Control | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Download CPD CSV | Export your activity as a spreadsheet for CPD records |
| Print CPD Report | Open a printable summary of your activity |
| Save & Log Out | Save progress and end your session |
Module cards
Each card shows the module title, relevant Evidence Act sections, and actions:
- Training Cards — open the lesson for that topic.
- Start Test — begin the knowledge test (or Resume / Retake if you have already attempted it).
- Review Incorrect — appears when you have wrong answers to review.
Progress text on each card shows training status, test scores, and time spent.
5. Training Cards
| Control | Action |
|---|---|
| Previous / Next | Move between cards |
| ← ↑ → ↓ keys | Same as Previous / Next |
| Print cards | Print all cards for the topic |
| Finish | Mark training complete and open the knowledge test |
Your place in the training sequence is restored when you return to a module later.
6. Knowledge tests
Tests present one question at a time with four answer options. After you answer, an explanation is shown. You can pause and resume an in-progress test.
At the end you see your score, the pass mark, and whether you achieved Pass or Not yet a pass. You can review incorrect items, retake the test (questions may be shuffled), or return to the modules dashboard.
Fully complete for a module means you have finished Training Cards and your best test score is at or above the pass mark (commonly 70% unless your site administrator has set a different site-wide pass mark).
7. Progress, completion, and CPD
The dashboard shows how many modules you have started, completed, and passed. CPD export uses your activity log on the server.
8. Your profile
The Your profile section on the modules dashboard shows:
- Your account — status (active/inactive), full name, username, email, and phone.
- Your administrator — contact details for the Client Administrator who manages your account.
- Training progress — summary counts and per-module status labels.
To change your email or phone, contact your Client Administrator.
